Yesterday I was called to a property in south Ockendon where the owners were away and friends were looking after their dog.the front door would not open as easily as it should. I arrived to find the latch was not retracting when using the key from the outside. I put a solid spindle in to make it better. I informed the owners of the problem and the price of a new lock system. The owners wanted me to fit a new system as the house was up for sale. I ordered the new system it arrived the next day I fitted it. The friends checked it all was good.
I was called out to a new building estate in Harold Wood where the the customer lost the keys to his letter box.I arrived on site and after trying to pick the lock I decided after talking to the customer to drill the lock.To be honest for a letterbox it took some drilling, once it was open I told the customer I would get a new cylinder in for him I rang all my suppliers and emailed them pictures no one recognised the lock.After trawling though the net I saw one.I rang the company and sent them pictures and they emailed me to say it was one of there’s they informed me it was a very secure barrel with alot of feature as well as being endorsed by the police.I informed the customer of the price supplied and fitted and he gave the go ahead.It arrived yesterday and was fitted today the customers mail is now safe
Yesterday I was called out to a property where the the tenant had left a key on the inside of the door which prevents the key on the outside working. I have been called to this property before with the same problem. The issue with this door is the letter box is down at the bottom of the door which makes gaining entry a problem but with the right tools and a boroscope (camera) the customer was in his property with no damage and no lock change. I advised the customer he would be better having a thumbturn cylinder fitted this will stop this happening as the knob on the inside stops you leaving the key on the inside
Last week I was called to a reasonably new flat in Grays Essex,the tenant had lost the key to one of the tilt and open windows.i took some photos of the handle and made sone enquiries,I informed the tenant of the price and he gave me the go ahead.I orderd the handle in which took a couple of days to arrive. Rang the tenant who asked me to fit it today,I picked the lock open removed the old handle and fitted the new one,the tenant can bow open,close and lock the window
I was called to a property in south Ockendon by a customer who could not get into his house,the dead bolt was not retracting.I gaind entry to the property checked the cylinder which was fine I then checked the lock case to find that intermittently the lock would not work.The customer informed they had got a temporary lock in it when it went wrong a while ago.i ordered in a new lock case the correct one for the door with I reckon was about 30 years old. Yesterday I fitted it and tbe customer is happy.
U last week I was called to a property in Chadwell heath who had a very old aluminium door and the latch wasn’t retracting when the handle was depressed which meant she would get locked out.i measured the lock and noticed tbe handles were not in very good condition .I made some enquiries but the oval cylinder handles are no longer available so she would have to have a new lock case,euro cylinder and new handles. I spoke to the customer and she decided to change the whole lot.I ordered the parts they arrived today and was fitted today so the custoner can you her back door without being locked out.
I was called to a property in south Ockendon yesterday, the customer was having problems opening the door and the handles were falling apart another locksmith had been to the property that day and for some reason fitted a new barrel and charged the customer £90 when it wasnt the fault.The fault was with the lock case.I ordered the case it arrived today I fitted it today with the new handles and for an old door it works very well and the customer will get a few more years with the door.
Today I was called out to Brentwood to a customer who had lost his keys whilst out shopping. He was able to get in but was unhappy knowing his keys were out there somewhere and someone may have picked them up and followed him to see where he lived. As a precaution I changed the night latch barrel or Yale lock as it is known and the mortise lock or Chubb lock. The customer was happy knowing that if someone had picked up his keys they could not get in his house
I was called to Collier Row Romford in Essex yesterday by a customer who had a upvc door that was sticking when she was opening it. After checking the door I found that the hooks at the top and the bottom were not retracting enough to allow the door to open. I removed the keeps so the customer could open and close the door, I ordered the new mechanism which was delivered today. I rang the customer who asked me to repair it today whilst I was there I replaced the handles as well As I was about to leave the customer asked me to look at the front door as they was having trouble double locking it .with a few adjustments it was locking perfectly
This morning at 6am I was called out to Billericay where a customer had returned home from a night shift. He unlocked his upvc front door pulled the handle down turned the key but the door would not open. I arrived within 30 mins gained entry to the property. The key was turning but not retracting the latch. The mechanism fitted to the door has this problem I advised the customer the gear box had broken in side and he needed a new one. I carry the gearbox on the van so the customer wanted the work carried out this was all done within the hour so the customer could go to bed knowing his front door was fine
